Bag size finder

The right size, worked out from your product

Most units are running a bag an inch or two larger than they need, and paying for that inch on every single piece. Measure the product, not the bag you buy today, and this will tell you what it should have been.

Measure what goes inside

Measure the product itself, not the bag you use now — that is how people end up buying the same wrong size for years.

Your bag size

11.5" × 12.5"

At 50 micron that is 8.57 g a bag — about 117 bags to the kilogram.

How we got there

  • Flat width = product width (8") + depth (3") + 0.5" ease, rounded up to the half inch.
  • Length = product height (10") + closing allowance for a fold-over + 0.5" for the bottom seal.
  • Rounded up to the half inch, because that is how bags are cut.

Nearest stock size

12" × 16" would fit and ships immediately. Going custom saves the difference on every piece, from our 100 kg per size minimum.

Custom sizes from 100 kg per size

We run flat widths from 3" to 58", 15 to 200 micron. Below the minimum a stock size is the better buy; above it, sizing properly pays for itself within weeks.

How this works

For a flat bag the film has to wrap around the product's depth, so the flat width is the product width plus its depth, plus half an inch of ease so the bag is not a struggle to fill. For a gusseted bag the depth is carried by the gusset instead, so the flat width stays close to the product width.

Length is the product height plus a closing allowance — two inches for a fold-over, one for a heat seal, one and a half for a zip track and lip — plus half an inch consumed by the bottom seal. Everything rounds up to the half inch, because that is how bags are cut.
